How EMDR Works

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements) while recalling distressing memories. This process helps the brain reprocess traumatic experiences, reducing their emotional charge and allowing for healthier perspectives to emerge.

What to Expect

  • Initial assessment and preparation
  • Processing sessions with bilateral stimulation
  • May experience emotional intensity during sessions
  • Typically faster results than traditional talk therapy
  • Integration of new, adaptive beliefs

Is EMDR Right for Me?

EMDR may be a good fit if you:

  • Have specific traumatic memories to process
  • Want a faster resolution than traditional talk therapy
  • Experience flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive thoughts

Not sure? Your therapist will help you determine if this approach is right for you during your first session.
